For those who do not know what Flash is, it is a plugin that allows the viewing (and hearing) of content that was created using Flash software. More specifically, it is used to play Flash games. As web browsers continue to lessen support of Flash, more people are finding themselves confused about how to use it. Eventually Chrome will stop running Flash altogether, but right now it is still available. Installing Flash on Chrome is easy to do, here are the steps:
First, when you open the Chrome web browser, you will see the URL bar towards the top of the window. When you go to a website, you will see an icon that looks like a lock at the far left corner of the URL bar. Pressing this lock icon reveals information about the internet connection and an option to view site settings.
Pressing ‘site settings’ leads to page listing features that can be adjusted. This is the page where websites are ‘given permission’ to use certain features. One of these features (found almost halfway down the list) is Flash. It is blocked by default. To allow flash, press the drop down box and press ‘Allow’.
Next, return to the page that has the Flash game and refresh the page. To refresh the page, you can press the ‘ctrl’ button and the ‘r’ button at the same time, or you can press the circle shaped icon in the upper left corner of the window.
These steps enable Flash on a single website. To allow all sites to run Flash, go to the top right corner of the Chrome window where the three vertical dots are located. When this icon is pressed, a drop down list appears and ‘settings’ is towards the bottom of it. Pressing ‘settings’ opens a page that you scroll to the bottom of. That is where you press ‘advanced’ , scroll down to the ‘privacy and security’ section, press ‘site settings’ , press ‘flash’, and then disable ‘block sites from running flash’.
It can be difficult to adjust the settings in Chrome when you do not know how to get to them, but these steps show you the way. Hopefully this helped and enjoy your Flash games.
